police, swat police ended a standoff with a wanted man by using flash bang grenades. there you see windows were shattered at this home near holly park. the standoff involved the suspect accused of injuring a police officer by ramming a patrol car during a chase yesterday afternoon. police lost track of that man until someone called the police hours later. >> later that evening at about 8:30 p.m., police got a tip that the same suspect was in a residence on the 100 block of appleton. >> the standoff started about 10:45 and there you see police arrested the man. he had spent time in federal prison and has connections to gangs in san francisco. >>> san jose police were called out to a fire at a home where marijuana plants were found growing inside. the police did not issue any citations because they sate person at the home had a medical marijuana card and was growing the marijuana legally. he had about five or six plant that were found in the garage. it was a small fire. it did burn part of the garage though. firefighters were able to put it out and nobody was hurt. >> problems wit

, to contra costa county. p.g. is telling us that there are about 15,000 customers that lost power this evening in the bay area, but again it was rain throughout the first half of the day. and boy, that's exactly what our chief meteorologist bill martin called for. bill, you told us that it would clear up by noon, and it did. >> [inaudible] that gave us a break -- the heaviest an inch of rain -- the upshot to that, the rainfall came under the estimates. so the rain not as heavy as expected. so that's good for the first of these heavy weather systems. if you take a look at the rainfall systems, heavy rain, but livermore, quarter of an inch. just an inch of rain in lowland. we're getting a break, there's the system as it moves out of the area. and you see that blue sky, we're going to get about scoffers of dry in the bay area. we've got all the live radars going, we've got reno, and sacramento, and looking for rain, the next system's going to come in here and it's going to come in as twice as strong as the other. i'm going to have all the details when i come back. i'm going to time t

killed in the south bay will be laid to rest today. matt keller joining us live with more on the service and the update on the investigation there to the case. >> reporter: yeah. i checked in with the san jose police department spokesperson for the update on this case. they are still search for a second suspect or at least that's what was happening all this week as they released a sketch on that expect now hee mailed me back and said per the homicide unit we aren't confirming or denying any new information. that came after i asked them if an arrest had been made. >> the man was shot and killed last week. one of the suspects a 26-year- old was in court wednesday. police say he and another man robbed four businesses, murdered a 22-year-old in a carjacking and participated in a shoot out with two officers one of the officers was hit and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. willbanks was arrested the next morning. officers released a sketch of the second suspect, a 20,000- dollar reward is being offered for his arrest. the funeral for the victim is being held this morning at 11. we wi

the battalion chief and told us many of those sent to the hospital have just been released. that's within the last few minutes. a gas representative is still checking all of the apartments in that duplex right behind me with the lights off. now the san francisco fire department says 11 people were transported to the hospital after the adults, there were eight adults, three children registered for high levels of carbon monoxide in their bloodstream. now a dispatcher received the call about 7:00 after hearing a carbon monoxide alarm sounding. >> basically we got a knock on the door from our neighbors and told us there was a carbon monoxide leak in the house. when we got out there was a fire truck and a lot of ambulances up and down the street. >> reporter: now some symptoms of the carbon monoxide poisoning, some of the residents had headaches and scratchy throughouts. the battalion chief is common cause is a faulty heater or stove. right now they still don't know the cause of this leak tonight. they till tell me the family called 911 and was able to get out of the house. a pg &e official is

of 2200 cancer patients authorized by the state of oregon to use mel marijuana. medical cannabis became legal in oregon between years ago. makayla's condition qualifies her to have a cannabis card under the state's program. even though she is seven,she has a state-issued cannabis card. but her use is not monitored by her doctor. that's what scares dr. caroline hastings who oversees the hematology/oncology department at children's hospital oakland. >> i don't think it's correct to use cannabis in this way. the most effective way to use any kind of medication like this is in concert with a medical team to make sure that there is no interference with any of the other medications used to treat the underlying disease, and to make sure it's safe. >> reporter: dr. hastings says about 60 children are diagnosed with leukemia each year at children hospital oakland. she says she has treated some of her young patients with different forms of cannabis, but the treatments are always supervised. makayla's biological father is not happy with using medical marijuana for his daughter's treatment. we'll h

dozens of demonstrators on the uc berkeley camp us protesting. there's a police blocked off the entrance. we are told involve test -- involve test -- several protesters are inside at this hour. this happened about 4:00 this afternoon and occupy call blog says that's when six students chained their necks to the doors on the sixth floor of that building. you see poli officers there on the scene not allowing anyone in or out. we were able to talk to university officials in just the past half hour they told us they are unaware of what motivated this protest. they tell us this building is vacant and is else seth to be demolished in the coming mites because it is not safe. we will stay on top of developing situation. you see a large number of students at the hall where it is now being closed off by police. more information coming up on the 10:00 news. that protest coincide with the a appointment of a new chancellor. the uc board of chancellor confirmed the appointment. he is currently an executive vice president and dean at columbia where we worked as a profess of history. he starts in june of
